Brian Bastien, President and CEO
Vancouver, BC (July 10, 2023) – Product Care Recycling, a leading Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) organization, is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Bastien as its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Brian began with Product Care in June, while his official appointment to the position of President and CEO took effect July 1st. He takes over from former President and CEO, Mark Kurschner, who will remain with the organization in a part-time advisory role as Vice President, Legal and Government Affairs as he transitions to retirement.
Brian recently moved to Vancouver, grew up in Toronto and also lived in the UK where he completed an International MBA at the University of Aberystwyth. Prior to joining Product Care Brian spent much of the last five years in the United States, leading the strategic planning on a sprawling restoration project in SW Michigan, for what has been hailed as a major destination for sustainable brewing and live music.
With a proven record in progressively senior roles, Brian brings valuable experience working in highly regulated multi-stakeholder environments. His previous involvement with the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation has provided him with insights into the intricacies of the recycling and stewardship sector. Brian is a passionate advocate for environmental stewardship. He has dedicated his time in official capacities volunteering for numerous boards and causes.
Appointed by the board of directors, Brian brings a wealth of experience in matrixed and regulated environments, making him well-suited to manage Product Care’s operations. As the organization oversees 22 recycling programs across 12 jurisdictions, Brian’s vast experience in business and various markets will build upon this foundation and lead the organization’s growth and communities it serves.
